Update from Board Co-chairs

Dear NACAR Members,

This is Marci Madary, NACAR President.  My co-chair, Mary Jo Mersmann, and I are posting this simple update to say hello and let you know some of the good news from NACAR. First and most important, the Board wants you to know that while we miss S. Cathy as executive director, NACAR is doing well. Here are some highlights.

  1. The "Ins and Outs of Associate Formation" Workshop to be held in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, June 10-12, 2011, is going to be great! There are 22 people registered for it, and the presenters Carol Gariano and Mary Jo Mersmann are excited and ready to roll. Feedback from others who have attended this workshop has been extremely positive.
  2. The workshop titled, "Developing Dynamic Teams, Boards, and Committees" to be held in Chicago, Illinois, on September 23-25, 2011, is going to have great ideas to promote participation and cooperation but will also address group dynamics and the different gifts people bring to a group. Tim O'Brien and I are presenting it and are looking forward to it.
  3. If you haven't checked out NACAR's new website, www.nacar.org, do it now. There is lots to see, including a directory of congregational members, a member section (register now!), upcoming events, and a monthly reflection. There is even information about a webinar in November hosted by Amy Hereford.
  4. A new section called "Scholarly Documents" has a couple of masters/doctoral theses that deal with associate ministry, but we would like more. If you or someone you know has written a thesis that would pertain to the associate/religious relationship and are willing to share it with others, please email it to Fred Goddard at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Thanks.
  5. A new issue of The Associate is ready to be printed and will be mailed to you within the next month.  There are a lot of interesting articles, so watch for it.
  6. Finally, SAVE THE DATE for our 2012 NACAR Conference "A Journey of Blessings" with Joyce Rupp as the keynote speaker.  It will be held June 1-3, 2012 in Chicago, IL.  More info to come.

For a parting blessing, I would like to share a short, but lovely poem called "No Time for Blues" by Sharon Auberle.
