NACAR Resources

From time to time, NACAR develops various resources to assist in the development and promotion of the associate vocation for religious communities and associates. You will find some of those resources here.

The Associate is a publication of the North American Conference of Associates and Religious (NACAR) with articles and news by and for NACAR members and those interested in the associate-religious relationship.

We are are always looking for prayers and reflections, stories about how associates are partnering with religious and others to address social justice issues, and best practices in associate-religious relationships.

Please see Guidelines for Submission (you must be logged in) If you would like to submit an article.

Thank you for helping us to tell the story of the associate-religious movement in our world today!

In spring 2015 the North American Conference of Associates and Religious (NACAR) commissioned the Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate (CARA) to update and extend a study CARA conducted in 2000 of the associate relationship in religious institutes in the United States and Canada (the year 2000 report is still available for purchase here). The project was designed by CARA in collaboration with NACAR and consisted of a survey for leadership of associates in religious institutes and a survey of the associates and vowed members of those institutes. You may download the report and the a study guide here.

A large part of the mission of NACAR is in developing and delivering resources and providing ministry training to those who minister to and work within the Associate-Religious relationship in North America. As professional leaders within this movement the need for resources and ongoing training is critical. This manual has gathered knowledge proven by experience and is organized in a way that makes it easy to use. It addresses the broader questions of charism and relationship, yet it is both prudent and practical. Most importantly it is design to grow as we as leaders grow in our shared experience and wisdom.

NACAR desires to join our collective wisdom in service of God and one another as we strive to identify trends and growing edges with the Associate-Religious relationship.

This manual does not contain all the answers to every question, but is meant to be a living document a "work in progress," in which the collective wisdom of our experience will be written for the benefit of all of us.
